Title compds. were continuously prepd. by esterification of terephthalic acid(II) and ethylene glycol(III) in the reaction tank, and then II in the residual gas was recirculated by washing with liq. III in a vertical down flow rectifier in the center while maintaining the temp. above the dew point of III. III in the residue gas was washed in distillation tank and fed back to first.
