The positive feed mechanism for delivering yarn to a textile machine, esp. a circular knitter, uses a rotating drum to store coils of yarn in transit. The yarn monitor is in the form of a separate and additional unit which can be mounted to and removed from the holder for the store drum. The arrangement allows the yarn monitor to be replaced, in the event of damage, without dismantling the complete yarn feed mechanism, and also allows the yarn feed to operate without a yarn monitor if required.
