INJECTABLE AMOXYCILLIN COMPOSITION

The present invention is concerned with a solution adapted for injection which comprises the sodium salt of amoxycillin dissolved in a sterile mixture of water and at least one water-miscible pharmaceutically acceptable alcoholic compound; and with a two pack container or two-part syringe wherein one pack or part contains a predetermined quantity of amoxycillin trihydrate or of sodium amoxycillin in the form of a dry powder and the second pack or part contains a predetermined quantity of a mixture of water and a water-miscible pharmaceutically acceptable alcoholic compound and (when the first part or pack contains amoxycillin itself) dissolved therein substantially one equivalent of alkali, whereby the contents of the two packs or parts when mixed together form a sterile solution of amoxycillin salt suitable for parenteral use. It is desirable that any antibiotic should be made available in a form suitable for adminstration by injection, as well as for oral adminstration and according to the invention it has now been found that injectable solutions of the sodium salt of amoxycillin possess an enhanced stability if the solvent used for reconstitution is a mixture of water and at least one alcoholic compound. Such solutions can give favourable blood level on injection.
