An asphalt laying machine is provided with a vibrating smoothing and compacting unit which is divided into a plurality of sections each of which is connected to the machine via vibration damping means 17A, 17B, and has associated vibration generating means 24, the latter preferably including a rotating shaft with eccentric weights, the shaft being disposed parallel with the front edge and rear edge of the associated section and the distance between the front edge and the shaft is shorter than the distance between the near edge and the shaft. Preferably, the forward portion of each smoothing and compacting section, seen in relation to the asphalt laying direction of the machine, is connected to the machine by means of vibration dampers 17A permitting vibration of the associated section in a plane perpendicular to the front edge, and that the rear portion of each section is connected to the machine by means of vibration dampers 17B less yieldable than the first-mentioned dampers for vibrations perpendicular to the smoothing and compacting plane of the sections. <IMAGE> |
