In order to reduce the wear of the individual parts of the mill and in order, in addition, to obtain a uniform and gentle effect of the grinding bodies on the material to be treated, the height of the circular-cylindrical grinding chamber (1) is substantially less than the diameter of the same, the opening (3) for feeding in the suspension being located at the centre point of one (2) of the two floors of the grinding chamber. The openings (8) for carrying off the suspension are made in the circumferential edge of the grinding chamber (1). The mill is particularly suitable for comminuting biological material suspended in a fluid, the grinding bodies being composed of a viscoelastic material whose density corresponds to the density of the suspension. <IMAGE>
