The device has a U-shaped holding bow (6, 7) which is pulled by the springs (10) to the rear wall (1) of the compartment (2) of the loading area of the vehicle. In this process, the bow (6, 7) is pivoted about the axis (5). In the holding positions (pos. B, C, D) it can secure unit loads, for example containers (12). If there are no containers in the compartment (2), the holding rod (7) of the bow (6, 7) is pivoted to the rear wall (1) (pos. A). For loading purposes the bow (6, 7) can be pivoted forwards and upwards (pos. E) to a stop on the ceiling (13) of the compartment (2), the pivoting action exceeding the dead centre position with respect to the spring force (10). The device allows rapid, unimpeded loading and unloading and secure support of the containers during transport. <IMAGE>
