The novel vincamine derivatives of the formula I, their antipodes (mirror image of the formula I), the mixture of the two antipodes in which R1 denotes fluorine, bromine, chlorine, hydroxyl, C1-C4-alkyl or C2-C4-alkoxy in position 9, 10, 11, 12 or methoxy in position 9 and 10, and their acid addition salts are prepared from the compounds of the formula II in which R1 has the above meaning, by treatment with hydrogen halide at temperatures below 0 DEG and subsequent hydrolysis. The compounds of the formula I can be used for increasing vigilance and for psychostimulation. <IMAGE>
