[Also in Division A2] An extruder comprises inner and outer die members 21, 24 which are rotatable in opposite senses and define a slit 28 for passage of collagen dough in tubular form, there being an axial bore 34 through the inner die member for passage of foodstuff. The coated foodstuff is upwardly extruded through a setting bath and is then carried on a conveyer provided with spaced slidingly reciprocable crimpers 12, 13, which close slowly under the action of cams to crimp the casing into individual sausage lengths which are deposited on a further drying conveyer. The individual sausage lengths may be cut by the crimpers 12, 13, or by a cam reciprocated knife blade 18. |
