Zwitterionic compounds of the general formula: (FORMULA) (wherein R represents CH<u2>u = C-A<u2>u-(R<u1>u is H or CH<u3>u; A<u1>u is COOCH<u2>u, CH<u2>uOCH<u2>u or CONHCH<u2>u) or hydrocarbon radical; R<u2>u represents H or CH<u3>u; B<s+>s represents (FORMULA) (wherein R<u6>u R<u7>u and R<u8>u respectively represent a divalent organic radical; R<u9>u represents a trivalent organic radical; R<u10>u R<u11>u and R<u12>u may either represent a hydrocarbon radical respectively or be linked to form a heterocycle; R<u13>u represents H or CH<u3>u; R<u14>u represents a hydrocarbon radical; A<u2>u may either represent a radical of (CH<u2>u)<um>uOCO, (CH<u2>u)<um>uNHCO and (CH<u2>u)<um>u or form a heterocycle together with R<u14>u; m is an integer of 1 to 4 and n is an integer of 1 to 3)) may be produced by reacting an oxylanic compound, sulfur dioxide and a tertiary amine. The zwiterrionic compounds have an excellent surface activity. |
