The matching network for very high frequency signals, consists of a stub tuner whose characteristic impedance can be varied whilst the tuner's electrical length remains constant. A dielectric slide (5) is located between the tuner's inner (2) and outer (1) conductors. The hollow inner conductor accepts a continuously variable extension (9) to its length. The extension is connected to a threaded insulating support (11) that screws into the inner conductor. The advantage lies in correcting the resonant frequency when the characteristic impedance is set.
