[Also in Division B5] An intermeshing screw press for extruding plastics is characterized in that mixing sections 11c and 12c are interposed between the two feed compression sections 11a, 12a and 11b, 12b respectively of each screw, comprising reverse flights 15 and 16, formed with gaps 17 angularly staggered in contiguous turns of the flight, the reverse flights on the two screws closely intermeshing to promote mixing. A vent 20 is provided after the mixing section for the removal of evolved gases by suction. A number of the feed-compression and mixing sections may be used in series. In a modification, both the core and flight sizes in the mixing sections are kept the same as those in the feed-compression sections. |
