The invention comprises compounds of the general formula (RO)(R1O)P(X).N(CH2OH).C(5).N(R2)(R3) wherein R and R1, which may be the same or different, are C1- 4 alkyl, X is oxygen or sulphur, R2 is a hydroxyalkyl group and R3 is C1- 4 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or a phenyl group. They may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula (RO)(R1O)P(X)NH-C(S)-NR2R3 with formaldehyde at a temperature between 0 DEG and 100 DEG C. The reaction is preferably effected in water or an organic solvent, e.g. acetone, acetonitrile or ethanol, and the reactants are generally employed in stoichiometric amounts. Specified alkyl groups for R, R1 and R3 are methyl, ethyl, propyl and isopropyl and specified hydroxyalkyl groups are hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, 2-(hydroxy)-2-(methyl) - propyl - 1, 2 - (hydroxy) - 2 - (methyl)-butyl-1 and 2-(hydroxy)octyl-1.ALSO:A pesticidal composition comprises at least one compound of the formula:- (RO)(R,O)P(X) . N(CH3OH) . C(5) . N(R2)(R3) wherein R and R1 which may be the same or different are C1-4 alkyl groups, X is O or S, R2 is a hydroxy-alkyl group and R3 is C1-4 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or a phenyl group (see Division C2). The compounds may be used in the form of aqueous or non-aqueous solutions, aqueous dispersions, wettable powders, vapours and dusts and fillers may also be included. Pests may be controlled by contacting them with at least one compound of the invention. |
