The method of attaching a pouring spout to a can, uses a device with a handle (18) with a hooked end (2) which is fitted over the edge (3) of the can (20). The horizontal stem (17) from which the hooked part extends, incorporates a spout (8) with a sharp sloping base (5) which pierces the top (4) of the can when sufficient leverage is applied by the handle. Near the middle of the handle is a bent spike (6) which can also be caused to pierce the top of the can to form an air escape hole (14). The hooked part can have a hardened blade (9) projecting inwards towards the edge of the can. The pouring spoit can carry a sealing ring (7) between the sloping face (13) and the handle (1).
