Bronchodilator compsns. contg. carbonic anhydrase inhibitors - e.g. acetazolamide for combating bronchospasm

Use of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors for combatting bronchospasm is new. The treatment is free from cardiac side-effects. Inhalation of aq. solns. causes relaxation of the bronchial musculature similar in extent to that brought about by known broncholytics such as fenoterol. The duration of the effect of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors varies from person to person, and is ca 4-8 hrs. Pref. carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are acetazolamide, methazolamide and dichlorphenamide. Pref. formulations are inhalants in the form of aq. solns.
