In the bow zone of a boat, a compact, oil and water mixt. scavenging device, extending beyond the width of the boat is fitted. The device withstands the pressure of the water whilst the boat is in motion, and it cannot sink when the boat is stopped. Its alignment can be varied both horizontally and vertically. For use with scavenging vessels suited to working on the high seas but is also applicable in coastal and harbour waters. Oil on the surface of any water can be removed, separated from water collected with it and stored temporarily. The present invention provides means of widening the oil collector, and uses a boat which on account of its design can take on board all the necessary devices in a compact and integrated manner. The boat has a high storage capacity and can be used in seas as rough as 5 and 6.
