Novel D 3-pyrroline derivatives of general formulae wherein A represents in which R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or halogen, or lower alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, lower alkanoyl halogenomethyl, nitro, amino, lower alkylthio, lower alkoxy, carbo lower alkoxy, mono- or di-lower alkylamino or hydroxy groups, and, when A is a phenyl group at least one of the groups R1, R2, R3 is different from hydrogen; R4 is a lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or aralkyl group or a lower dialkylamino group, and salts thereof and their preparation by reacting D 3 - pyrroline - 2 - carboxylic acid with the acid halide or reactive ester of the required carboxylic acid wherein R1, R2, R3 and -R4 are as defined above. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-flammatory and anti-pyretic activity contain a compound of the first general formula above or a salt thereof derived from an inorganic or organic base, as the active ingredient.
