Tungsten-copper composites (e.g. containing 20-60% Cu balance W) are made by blending 75-99% WsO 11 and 1-25% Cu 2 O in powder form, reducing the powder mixture in a hydrogen atmosphere at 750-1025 ‹C. for 1-2 hours, compacting and sintering the coreduced oxide mix and finally infiltrating the composite with molten copper. A binder and/or lubricant can be mixed with the reduced powder, which may also have been pulverized and screened, prior to the compaction step. |
