Air drying resin, esp. alkyd resin, dispersions - contain ethoxylated unsaturated fatty acid derivs. having allyl gps., as nonionic emulsifiers

Aq. dispersions of air-drying resins, useful as coatings or lacquer binders, contain nonionic emulsifiers derived from unsatd. fatty acids and which also exhibit 2-6C allyl gps/mol. The dispersions pref. contain 0.5-10(1-8)wt. % emulsifier (w.r.t. resin) and 30-70 wt. % air-drying alkyd resin having acid index 5-40(5-25) and fatty acid proportion 25-80(45-70) wt. %. The dispersions can be used for coating wood, glass, metal, etc. The dispersions are oil-in-water emulsions which can be diluted with water in any proportion, without dilution curve max. (ii) After drying, the coatings are hard and have higher resistance to water than coatings applied from emulsions contg. non-reactive emulsifiers or water-dilutable amine-neutralised systems having a high acid index. (iii) Content of organic solvents, volatile amine or NH3 is very low.
