摘要 1,202,840. Thermal regenerators. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 8 Aug., 1969 [29 Aug., 1968], No. 39802/69. Heading F4K. A ceramic regenerator core 22 rotatably mounted in a gas turbine engine is rotated by a drive arrangement consisting of an annular ring gear 34 which is coupled to the regenerator core by means of a plurality of spaced locating members designed to permit slight relative radial and axial movement while preventing tangential movement between the core and the ring gear. As shown in Fig. 1, the locating members are formed by U-shaped leaf springs 40 which fit into a peripheral groove 30 the bottom of which is made up of flat portions 32. Tn an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4, the locating members each comprise a pad 70 of a high temperature elastomer having a steel plate 72 bonded to one side. The plate 72 has a semicircular groove 74 which extends parallel to the rotational axis of the core 22<SP>1</SP> and cooperates with a corresponding groove 76 formed in the inner surface of the ring gear 34<SP>1</SP>; steel balls 78 are located in the grooves. Short slots (80, Fig. 5, not shown) cut into the corners between the adjacent flat portions of the outer periphery of the core serve to relieve thermal stresses. A solid ceramic rubbing seal 18, e.g. of a nickel oxide-calcium fluoride combination, is located on top of an inner housing 14 which is divided into passages 16, 17. A metal foil seal 58 is welded to the top of a D-shape seal 56 located above the passage 17. In use cool air from a compressor flows up through a surrounding passage 13, through the core 22 and then down through passage 16. Hot combustion gases flow upwardly through passage 17.
