Apparatus for discharging sheets, e.g. banknotes, to a dispensing aperture accessible from the exterior of the apparatus has feeding mechanisms for discharging the sheets from magazines to the aperture and detectors and counters for detecting any sheets fed out twofold and for counting the dispensed sheets. The feeding mechanisms are separate feeders respectively associated with the magazines and arranged in series from the feeder furthest from the dispensing aperture to a feed position common to all the magazines.
