PURPOSE:To prevent the breakdown of an ink jet port surface and a dust removing means due to abrasion and the like by operating an ink discharge device before the dust removing means is operated, and by operating the dust removing device after ink is stuck on the ink jet port surface. CONSTITUTION:A heat 5 mounted on a carriage 7 faces, at a position A, a cap 3 which communicates with a suction pump and is movable forward and backward. A position B is located in the axial direction of the carriage from the position A, and it faces a dust removing means 9 in gearing with a motor 8. The pump is operated for a time t1 at the position A to suck up ink Q1. Thereafter a shift is made to the position B and the dust removing means is operated for a time t2 to remove dust in a jet port part. Then, a return is made to a standby position. |
