In a bag-making machine, each bag 2.1 is severed from the freely suspended leading end of a flattened tubular web by a knife 15 substantially at the same time as welding jaws 13, 14 apply a transverse weld seam 8 to the web to serve as the base of the next bag. After severing, the open top of the bag is held by clamping jaws 11, 12 until a pressure roller 47 has pressed the bag against a belt or belts running on a roller 46 of a conveyor. Thereafter, a thrust member 48 pushes the top of the bag under a further pressure roller 49 which, when applied to the belt or belts, ensures that the bag is taken away on the conveyor. <IMAGE> |
