The centrifugal pump has an impeller (8) which is provided with two blades (15, 16), each of which forms a helicoid. The envelope (19) of the blades (15, 16) is a conical surface which runs coaxially to the rotational axis (11) of the impeller (8). The radial distance of the leading edges (20, 21) of the blades (15, 16) from the rotational axis (11) of the impeller (8) steadily increases towards the inlet port of the centrifugal pump. As a result of this shape of the impeller, the substance to be pumped is steered from the leading edges (20, 21) of the blades (15, 16) towards the centre of the impeller (8), so that even viscous substances and substances containing solids can be pumped without the risk of blockage. <IMAGE>
