A towed aircraft (e.g. an aerial target) has a owing cable 2 secured at 4 above the aircraft entre of gravity and passing through a ring 5 releasably secured at the aircraft nose. The ring 5 may be held by a hook 21 on the end of a bell crank 20 which is prevented from turning about its pivot 22 by a shear pin 25. To release the ring 5 a firing device 15, responding to a radio signal from a towing aircraft, detonates explosive charges 13 forcing a piston 9 and plunger 10 to rotate the bell crank 20, shearing the pin 25. |
