Phenolic resins containing titanium linked to the phenol molecule via the oxygen atom of the-OH group are prepared by mixing titanium tetraphenolate with formaldehyde in a weight ratio of about 50:30, heating the mixture to a temperature of 50-70 DEG C. until the exothermic reaction begins, maintaining the mixture at ambient temperature for 1 to 3 days, heating the resultant prepolymer at a temperature between 70 DEG and 80 DEG C. until a paste is obtained and moulding said prepolymer under pressure suitably of 500-1500 atmospheres at a temperature, for only a few minutes, of 110 DEG C. |
