A water softening system for domestic appliances such as dish washers has a pilot-operated spool valve between the salt container and the ion exchanger container. The water pressure in one fresh water pipe acting on one face of the spool urges the valve into the OFF position, and that in the second pipe moves it into the ON position where it permits brine to pass to the ion exchanger for regeneration. This is a simple and functionally reliable method to initiate the ion exchanger regeneration. This valve has a low flow resistance in its ON position. |
