In an intermittent drive mechanism for a tape, paper, or document feed of a data-processing machine, continuous rotation of an input shaft 12 is combined with a cam-induced oscillation to impart to an output shaft 94 a cyclically varying rotary motion including dwell periods. A carrier 26 rotatably mounted on the input shaft 12 is driven thereby in the opposite rotational sense thereto via bevel gears 54, 40, 42, 38, the gears 40, 42 being rotatably mounted on a block 48 which is rotatably supported on the input shaft 12 and held against rotation by the engagement of trunnions (62, 64) (Fig. 1, not shown) with lugs 68 in the housing. Pairs of rockers 72, 88, pivoted to the carrier 26 on pins 74 equispaced round a common pitch circle, carry between their ends roller followers 84 for a cam disc 24 secured to the input shaft 12. Cam disc 24 and carrier 26 rotate at the same speed in opposite directions, the rockers making 32 oscillations per revolution of the input shaft, using the 16 lobe cam disc shown. The motion of the rockers is conveyed to the output shaft 94 by gear sectors 96 rigid with the rockers 88 and meshing a gear-wheel 98 secured on the output shaft, Figs. 2, 3, or by links 128 connecting the rockers 72 with a cross 126 secured on the output shaft, Fig. 5. The cam disc 24 has lightening holes 112 to reduce its inertia. |
