An emulsion cream of improved local anesthetic effect when applied topically, which consists of an oil-in- water emulsion, in which a local anesthetic agent in base form as such or dissolved in an oil forms the oil phase of the emulsion, and the concentration of local anesthetic agent in the oil droplets is such that the oil is substantially saturated by local anesthetic agent and a substantial part of the droplets have a size not exceeding 10 microns. |
