The towbar coupling for the car has a tubular cross member (1) secured between two side flanges (3) at the sides of the car and supporting the towbar extension (10) near the middle. The coupling between the extension and the towbar support (1) has cylindrical surface thrust pads (11). The cross member is fitted over studs welded to the flanges and has some rotational movement to reduce strain. The ends of the towbar may have lugs made from elastic plate which are held in forks on the flanges.
