An electrooptical coupling device is used. It operates a switch located on the opposite side of a shop window or showcase window. The switch is connected to electrical equipment. The light source (14) is connected to a battery (22) by a pushbutton (20). The light from the source irradiates a photocell (24) on the other side of the window (12). The photocell operates the switch.
