Clamping of foils between panes, esp. in double glazing - where foils have a coating reflecting infrared rays but transmitting light

The foils are fixed to individual frames (a) each possessing a profile which clamps the foils when the frames (a) are pressed together. The outer surfaces (a1) of the frames (a) which will be in contact with glass panes in double glazing, are pref. bonded to the panes before the frames (a) are pressed together to clamp the foils. Several foils may be clamped between one pair of panes; and an adhesive may fix the foils in their final position. The frames may form a spacer between two glass panes, the result being a sealed internal cavity which may be filled with a gas improving thermal insulation; and/or a desiccant may be included in the frames. The foils pref. have a coating reflecting infrared but so thin that the colour of transmitted light is not changed; and the spacer may contain sound absorbing material. Used for the inexpensive mfr. of multipane insulation glazing or covers for absorber plates used in solar energy collectors.
