<p>Prodn. of dissolved FeCl3 is effected by subjecting an aq. FeCl2 soln. to a concn. process by evapn. and chlorination, with addn. of Cl2. It is pref. to subjected FeCl2 to chlorination in a first stage and concn. in a second stage in a closed cycle. The process is suitable for converting industrial wastes contg. FeCl2 in low concns. into a useful prod. Chlorination is pref. carried out in chlorometers using the Venturi effect between the Cl2 container and the network of piping with FeCl2. An external heat source is used during the concn., which is carried out under a gas exhaust lock to ensure removal of the gases by evapn. Alternatively, the aq. FeCl2 soln. is conc. by natural evapn. on dry surfaces and placed in various containers, from which it circulates through 2 consecutive oxidn. towers with a Cl2 cloud, so that FeCl3 soln. of the required concn. is obtd. The Cl2 is introduced in the liq. state through the bottom of the second oxidn. tower and then passes into the cycle in the gaseous state. No external heat source is needed.</p> |
