Intumescent compsn. comprises a resin binder, an inorganic acid generator, a C generator and, a spore forming agent, a salt of (a) a 2-amino-s-triazine of formula (I): (where each R1 and R2 is H, halogen, OH, amino, opt. substd. alkyl, opt. substd. alkeny. of up to 6C) and (b) an opt. unsatd. polybasic carboxylic acid of up to 2 non-carboxylic carbon atoms per COOH gp. Pref. one of R' and R2 is amino. (I) is pref. melamine, propioguanamine or acetoguanamine. The compsn. has improved intumescence and fire resistance.
