IC engine ignition test system - uses time variation of current in transformer primary as indication of functioning

The test device is used for testing ignition systems or IC engines in situ. It uses the time variation in the current in the primary or secondary winding (or the voltage induced in either of these windings) as an indication of the correct functioning of the ignition system. The rise time of the primary current indicates the resistance in the secondary circuit. A rise time that is too short indicates moisture in the distributor (if the latter is an 'open' type) or an inter-turns short circuit in the secondary.
