The refuse collection cart is fitted with a collecting hopper which is able to move between loading and unloading positions. In the second position the refuse already loaded into the hopper is transferred into a storage space inside the body of the vehicle. The transfer is effected by a toothed scraper plate which travels from one end of the hopper to the other. The hopper has a curved base which is part cylindrical so the scraper can be pivoted about the central axis and cover the whole hopper.
