PURPOSE:The solution polymerization of chloroperene monomer and glycidyl acrylate monomer is conducted using a mercaptoalcohol as a chain transfer agent to produce title polymer suitable for producing cold-curable and flame-retardant composition in combination with an isocyanate or others. CONSTITUTION:The radical copolymerization of chloroprene monomer alone or thereof with copolymerizable monomers such as 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 with a glycidyl acrylate monomer of the formula (R is H, 1-2Calkyl) in an organic solvent is conducted using a mercaptoalcohol such as 2-mercaptoethanol as a chain transfer agent to produce chloroprene liquid polymers bearing at least one hydroxyl group and 0.5-2.5 epoxy groups in the molecule and having a number average molecular weight of 500-20000. The amounts of the chain transfer agent and the organic solvent employed are 0.3-20 and 20-200 parts respectively per 100 parts of the monomer. The organic solvent used is selected from aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic halogenated hdyrocarbons and cyclic ethers which boil at temperatures lower than 150 deg.C under normal pressure. |
