The invention comprises compounds of formulµ wherein X and Y are each H, halogen, C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy, or di-(C 1-6 alkyl)amino (but X or Y #H), R is C 1-6 alkyl, and Z is esterified CO 2 H, CN or CONH 2 (possibly alkyl- or phenyl-substituted). I are prepared by heating IV in presence of acid or alkali. IV are prepared by reacting XC 6 H 4 CHOHCOC 6 H 4 Y with RCOCH 2 Z with NH 3 (or, e.g., NH 4 OAc). Therapeutic compositions comprise compounds I, above, which exhibit anti-inflammatory activity. Oral administration in unit dosage form is preferred. |
