The expanding device of the shoe stretcher contains two longitudinal bars (7, 8) which are fastened on the inside of the two last half-parts (1, 2). The longitudinal bars (7, 8) are connected in each case with two lever pairs (10, 11, 12, 13) to a fixed bearing bush (3), which is mounted rotatably but not displaceably on a spindle (4), or to a moving nut (5) which, on rotation of the spindle (4), is displaceable on the threaded part of the latter. The spreading apart of the longitudinal bars (7, 8) takes place by the rotation of the spindle (4) when the moving nut (5) approaches the bush (3). The expanding device forms an independent assembly which can even be built into shoe stretchers of different size easily. <IMAGE>
