PURPOSE:An oxidizing cataiyst which is effective for CO but not so effective for SO2 is provided by incorporating a given amount of phosphorus into a platinum catalyst which is carried by diatom earth. CONSTITUTION:A diatom earth carrier is dipped into an aqueous solution of H2 PtCl6, containing 0.1 to 1.0wt% of Pt, for a period of several minutes to several hours, then excess liquid is removed, dried, and fired. The resultant Pt-carried diatom catalyst is dipped into an aqueous solution of phosphorus compound such as (NH4)2HPO4, the concentration of which is preferably 0.4 to 1.0 mole/1, for a period of several minutes to several hours, then excess liquid is removed, dried, and fired to produce catalyst containing 4 to 8wt% of phosphorus, based on P2O5- converted value. |
