The hen battery of the main patent has rows of cages above one another arranged as tiers, which are stepped above each other. Between a lower cage and the cage above is a protective screen. This consists of an upper gradually sloping part and a lower more steeply sloping part. The upper part consists of a permanent sheet which includes a downwardly sloping front part under the food trough region of the cage above. The lower part consists of inter changeable film material offering protection from the main compartment above. They overlap at the joint region.
