In the case of a method of erecting freely projecting stairs from prefabricated structural elements, composite structural elements (2), comprising a tread-element bearing (8) and an unfinished tread element (5) engaging therein, are assembled to form an unfinished staircase on which it is possible to walk. In order to conclude the construction work, tread boards (1) are connected to the unfinished tread elements (5) to form a finished staircase.
