Sound quality of an upright piano is enhanced by panels of sound transmitting material located in the front facia. The main frame (1) carries the mechanism (5) and the string assembly (3). The keyboard (6) is supported centrally on the main frame. The front plate has a number of rectangular section openings (2) that have either metallic or fabric mesh panels allowing sound transmission.
