[Also in Divisions A3 and A5] An absorption pad comprises an outer liquid permeable envelope H with wet strength containing a plurality of cellulosic sheets 4 arranged in superposed layers with capillary spaces between the layers and at least one cavity 12 formed through at least some of the layers from one internal face of the envelope, the capillary spaces opening into the cavity. The envelope may consist of one or more layers and may have a portion that is more liquid permeable than other portions overlying cavity 12. Sheets 4 may be formed of cellulosic wadding or flock and, instead of having their edges upturned as shown in Fig. 1, may be arranged flat with their edges connected together by tacking or sticking. |
