A D.C. motor M having a series field winding 5 is controlled by the circuit arrangement shown, in which thyristors 12, 13 respectively short circuit the winding 5 and series-connected diode in arm 2 or 4, the firing of the thyristors being dependent on the degree of field variation required and the polarity of the A.C. source 8 at the firing instant. The invention may be applied to a single-phase rectifier comprising thyristors and a plurality of control stages.</p> |
