The novel dihydrobenzofuranone derivatives of the formula I are obtained by lactonisation of compounds of the formula II. They exhibit antiphlogistic, antipyretic and analgesic actions. <IMAGE> wherein R1 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 8 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, R2 represents hydrogen or a lower alkyl group and R3 represents halogen, nitro, methyl, hydroxyl, amino, lower alkoxy or acylamino are obtained by lactonisation of compounds of the formula II. They exhibit antiphlogistic, antipyretic and analgesic actions.
