The pump 11 supplies air via pipes 9 to the devices 4, the heat generated by which would cause excessive heating of the battery. To counteract this effect the battery is cooled by air sucked into the housing through a shielded inlet pipe 19 and delivered to the pump by a pipe 21. When the battery temperature is low, a heat sensor 26 opens a valve 25 to allow the pump to draw in air from the engine compartment instead of via the inlet pipe 19. To obtain rapid warning of a cold battery the air inlet to the housing 18 may communicate with the engine compartment or hot sections of the exhaust pipe.</p> |
