<p>1490716 Foam plastics/metal laminates DOW CHEMICAL CO 10 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 53389/74 Heading B5N A foam plastics/metal laminate 10 comprises a generally rectangular elongate foam plastics body 11 and an elongate metal sheet 16 having on one surface thereof an adhesive 18, a major portion of the adhesive being adhered to one face 13 of the foam plastics body, the elongate metal sheet having a first edge 20 and a second edge 21 which extend in the direction of the major dimension of the elongate body and are folded about 180 degrees in a direction away from the foam portion of the laminate thereby disposing remote from the foam a portion of adhesive along the first and second edges, the width of the fold at the first edge being substantially less than the width of the fold at the second edge and the total width of the metal sheet being greater than the width of the adjacent portion of the foam body. The plastics foam may be of polystyrene or polyurethane, the metal sheet may be of copper or aluminium and the adhesive may be a copolymer of 83% by weight of ethylene and 17% by weight of acrylic acid, bitumen or an epoxy resin. The width of fold 23 may be 1À5 to 10 times that of fold 22. A similar metal sheet 16a may be adhered to the other face 15 of the foam. A wall structure 30 may be produced by applying the elongate foam plastics/metal laminate to a generally like foam plastics/metal laminate and unfolding the second edge of the metal layer of one of the laminates and joining it, e.g. by heat sealing to the adjacent metal layer of the other laminate in the region of its first edge to obtain an adhesive seal. Each of the laminates 31 may have a foam body 32 composed of previously laminated foam elements 33, 34, 35 and 36, adjacent foam bodies being directly adhered to each other at locations 37.</p> |
