<p>Title compsns comprise 0.2-10 wt% of hexabromo-2-butene 3-20 wt.% of an organic blowing agent and opt 0.1-2.0 wt% of an organic peroxide synergist. The polymers are homopolymers of styrene, vinyltoluene or alkyl- or chloro-substd styrene, or their copolymers contg >=50wt% of the vinyl aromatic monomer with butadiene, alkyl acrylates or methacrylates, acrylonitrile or maleic anhydride. The hexabromo-2-butene is transform made by bromination of diacetylene. The blowing agents are conventional aliphatic hydrocarbons or their halogenated derivs. Pref. peroxides are 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(t-butyl peroxy) hexane, and 1,3-bis(alpha-tert. butylperoxyisopropyl) benzene.</p> |
