发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To sufficiently increase the on-off ratio of thin-film transistors (TFT) and to obtain a display having a high contrast ratio by forming the picture element electrodes of the TFTs of an incident light reflecting metallic film and constituting the polarization axis of a polarizing plate in parallel with the major axis of the liquid crystal molecules of a liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The picture element electrodes are extended from drain electrodes 18. A transparent insulating film 13 and a transparent substrate 20 formed with a counter electrode 19 are so disposed that the TFTs and the counter electrode 19 face each other. The liquid crystal 21 is packed between the substrates 13 and 20 and the gust-host type liquid nematic liquid crystal contg. a black dye is used as the liquid crystal 21. The polarization axis of the polarizing plate 23 is paralleled with the major axis direction of the liquid crystal molecules at off state where a voltage in not impressed on the liquid crystal layer 21. The common use of a reflecting plate with the picture element electrodes is possible and the constitution over the entire part of the liquid crystal display device is simplified by forming the picture element electrodes in such a manner. The arrival of external light to the semiconductor layer of the TFTs is prevented at all times and the on-off ratio of the TFTs is increased. The display of the high contrast ratio is thus obtd.</p>
