Layered glass filaments ar applied by winding around the junction pieces of pipes made from polyethylene or polypropylene, to reinforce the weld beads at these junctions. The glass filaments may either by dry or impregnated with a synthetic resin. Corresponding spacing pieces are arranged during winding on the branch pieces, to retain the glass filaments. The wound area is coated with an envelope of synthetic material after completion of the winding; this may be effected in a mould.
